Work

This body of work centres around portraiture, figurative studies and emotional storytelling through oil, watercolour and charcoal.

Much of the work begins with people: expressions, gestures, memories, feelings, or moments that are difficult to explain directly. These pieces explore emotional sensitivity, femininity, vulnerability and the quiet ways people carry what has happened to them over time.

Alongside more personal figurative works, many of the portrait studies focus on women who exist within public memory and cultural mythology. I’m interested in the tension between performance, projection and identity, and how certain women become symbols onto which people place their own ideas, grief, admiration or expectations.
